Voice-enabled workout logging software that lets strength coaches record sets, reps, loads and notes on the training floor without re-keying them later.

Problem

Strength and conditioning staff record what an athlete actually lifted on a paper card or a clipboard, because during a session there is no free hand for a keyboard and no time to open an app between sets. The numbers then get re-keyed into a spreadsheet hours later, usually that evening, usually by the same person. Detail is lost in the gap: a missed set, a load that was reduced mid-session, a note about why. The planned programme and the delivered programme quietly diverge, and by the time anyone wants to compare them, only the plan survives in a system.

Product idea

A phone-held voice assistant built for the training floor. The coach speaks naturally, for example "Marcus, back squat, three by five at one-forty, last set felt heavy," and the assistant parses athlete, exercise, sets, reps, load and the free-text note into structured fields, confirms back audibly, and writes to the session log. It handles the vocabulary of a weight room, works with the ambient noise of one, and queues entries offline when the facility has no signal. Corrections are spoken, not typed.

Where the AI agent does the work

The agent's job is narrow: turn a spoken sentence, athlete, exercise, sets, reps, load, note, into structured fields at the moment it is said, on the training floor, with no keyboard involved. That is the step the problem describes happening hours later instead, usually that evening, usually by the same person, with a missed set or a mid-session load change lost in the gap. Parsing at the point of capture does not just make re-keying faster, it removes the re-keying step entirely, so the planned programme and the delivered programme stop quietly diverging between the card and the spreadsheet.

This proposed workout logging software adds a faster capture method: speak the set, save the workout.

A coach might say the athlete's name, the exercise, the sets and reps, the load, and a short note about how the last set felt. The system converts that into structured fields:

Voice logging for the weight room

The tool is designed specifically for strength and conditioning workflows. Instead of open-ended dictation, it works from a fixed athlete roster, a known exercise library, common sets and reps, expected load ranges and short coaching notes.

The assistant confirms the entry and allows corrections by voice. Push-to-talk keeps the interaction simple in a noisy training environment.

From training floor to structured log

The goal is to remove the evening transcription step. The coach speaks, the entry is parsed, the coach confirms, and the session log updates.

At the end of the session, staff can review and edit the completed strength training log before export. The existing athlete management system or spreadsheet remains the destination if required.

This tool solves the capture problem rather than trying to replace the performance stack.

First release

A one to two week prototype could include a mobile push-to-talk interface, an athlete roster CSV, a core exercise library, a sets, reps and load parser, spoken notes, audio confirmation, voice correction, a session review screen, CSV export and an offline entry queue.

Audio retention should be configurable, including the option to discard recordings once transcription is complete.

The opportunity

Existing strength training software, athlete platforms and workout trackers can store detailed training data.

The friction often happens one step earlier: how does a coach capture what actually happened without stopping the session to type it?

Questions we get asked

How accurate does the speech recognition need to be to be useful?

It does not need to be perfect, because the coach reviews the session before it is saved. What matters is that correcting a misheard entry is faster than writing the whole thing down. The vocabulary is also narrow and repetitive (a fixed roster, a known exercise list, numbers in predictable ranges), which is a far easier recognition problem than open dictation.

A weight room is loud. Does that break it?

Ambient noise is the normal operating condition on a training floor, not an edge case, so the assistant uses push-to-talk instead of a wake word and captures audio close to the mouth in a short burst. It is worth testing this on your own floor during a real session before committing: if it does not hold up in your room, that is worth discovering in week one of a prototype rather than after a build.

We already have an athlete management system. Why not just use that?

You should keep using it. The gap is not storage, it is capture: the reason logs get re-keyed in the evening is that nothing in the existing system is usable with one hand between sets. This sits in front of what you already have, and version one exports in the shape your spreadsheet already expects rather than trying to replace anything.

What about athlete data consent and privacy?

Training load and performance data about identifiable athletes carries the same consent and access obligations as the rest of your performance data, and a voice tool adds audio to that. The design decisions that follow are worth settling early: whether audio is retained at all or discarded once transcribed, who can see a given athlete's log, and how long entries are kept. These would be agreed with your performance and legal leads before build, not after.
